History of Apologetics
Dr. Theodore A. D. Hallum, Jr.
From its beginning, the Christian faith has faced constant criticism from unbelievers and critics alike. In modern times the Christian faith is regularly attacked by Atheists, Deists, Pantheists, Agnostics, and countless other nonbelievers. Johnson C. Philip, in his “Apologetics in Bible Times” stated that the fact that man is a sinner, totally depraved, and unable to serve himself, short of grace, “irritated and irked the pagans who had a universalist theology.” (Philip, p. 3) This requires that believers know what it is that they believe and to be able to share that information with unbelievers who sincerely inquire about the Christian faith.
